Download MP3 (right click to save) It was my big, political move: running for President of my college senior class, and it was close…really close. I lost like something like three votes. The outcome hurt a little, but not as much as finding out that some of my best friends hadn’t gotten around to voting that day. I didn’t have the votes of the people who counted most—the people closest to me.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and that was just an election—no big deal. Not compared to the votes that count for life…the votes of the people closest to you, like your husband, your wife, your kids. Even God thinks those votes are pretty important. When He lays out His qualifications for people who want to be spiritual leaders, God says, “He must manage his own family well, and see that his children obey him with proper respect. If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?” (1 Timothy 3:4-5 ) God says if your faith, and your leadership isn’t working at home, please don’t spread that infection to the ministry. You know, it’s possible to be so busy “serving the Lord” that you actually neglect the most important ministry of your life—the first church of your house. Oh, it’s easy to hide in church from the hard work of a happy marriage or responsible parenting. But folks at church will call you a hero; the folks at home are desperately in need of the only husband, or wife, or mommy, or daddy they have. Could it be that the church is getting your best while your family is just getting your leftovers? See, they’re the votes that count the most. Looking for some more spiritual encouragement and challenge? Would you meet us at our website today? It’s A LifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: 1 Timothy 3:4-5 |
