"Squeaky" Fromme was 17 when she tried to kill the President of the United States back in the '70s. She was a follower of the mass murderer, Charles Manson. "Squeaky" Fromme was in the news again recently when she was released from prison. And I cannot forget an interview with her that I read after she was arrested. She recounted how she felt like a misfit. She'd run across the country to southern California, and she was sitting on a curb when a man put a hand on her head and offered to take care of her. That man was Charles Manson. She went with him because of a decision years before that "whoever loves me first, can have my life."

I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I'll tell you, there are so many "Squeakys" out there today. Whoever makes them feel loved first will have their life. I pray it will be a friend of Jesus...maybe you. So many young people in your town, even young people you know, feel disconnected from their parents, from kids at school; some are trolling the internet hoping someone there will notice them. We Christian adults, and actually the whole church of Jesus Christ, have nothing more important to do than get outside our walls and connect with this lost and lonely generation.

The Bible equates wisdom with these imperatives: "...care for the lost; seek the young" (Zechariah 11:16 ). Lost young people won't come to us; we'll have to seek them - go where they are. And what can you do? Make it your mission to make some hurting or marginalized young people feel important when they're with you. And pray for an open door to let them know that Jesus thought they were important enough to die for them.
