When we sold our house of 25 years, my grown sons and I went out to the backyard one last time and we stood reverently on this bare spot in the lawn. That had been home plate where I taught them how to play baseball. I gave them the basics like how to hit ... you know, keep your eye on the ball. Oh, and the important one: wait for it to come to you. Now I found out that rule is not just for baseball. It's important for a life that matters, and that's what God wants you to have.
I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and unfortunately, a lot of us are impatient people. When it's not happening fast enough, we try to force it, we try to scheme and manipulate it and rush it, instead of waiting for it to come to you. Too many times I could not wait for God to bring it to me. I rushed it and I ruined it. That's why God says in Ecclesiastes 3 , "There's a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven (vs. 1). He has made everything beautiful in its time (vs. 11)." That why Psalm 37 says, "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him" (vs. 7).
Probably nothing has cost more people God's best than impatience. You get the wrong mate, you get the wrong career, you get the wrong life. Don't reach for it; wait till it comes to you in God's perfect timing.
