Download MP3 (right click to save) As we recently grieved the death of a 25-year-old leader of our Native American outreach teams, we were comforted by something he’d written about a year ago. He was reflecting on his love for the Cherokee community and heritage he’d grown up with, including the cemetery in the woods where generations of his family and people were buried…and where he’s buried now. He closed his thoughts with these words, “I often think about the day I’m taken to that cemetery, to lie with my fathers and mothers. As in the Books of the Kings, I live my life so that it may be said of me, ‘He lived his life pleasing as unto the Lord.’” As they read those words at his graveside, I turned to one of his fellow Native team members and I whispered, “Mission accomplished.”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and our friend and our son in the faith lived up to the epitaph that he had hoped to fulfill. Which raises the question, how do I want to be remembered? How do you want to be remembered? And will it be mission accomplished? I’ve read no better epitaph than the one God gave King David when He said, “When David had served God’s purpose in his generation, he fell asleep” (Acts 13:36 ). However much life you have left, why not make that your mission: to serve God’s purpose for you in your generation. Not your purpose, not your parents’ purpose, not the company’s purpose, but God’s purpose. And, like our friend, living your life “as pleasing unto the Lord.” Our website is dedicated to helping you know how to make the greatest possible difference with the life you have left. Would you check it out today? It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Acts 13:36 |
