Download MP3 (right click to save) Happy Labor Day! It’s a day most of us celebrate by not laboring. But tomorrow, back to work! Maybe to a job you love or maybe to a job you (you fill in the blank). There is a way you can love your job, no matter what.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and in the Bible, Jacob had a hard job and a lousy boss. But his boss had promised him that he could marry his beautiful daughter Rachel if he worked for him for seven years. And the Bible says, “So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her” (Genesis 29:20 ). Your work feels different when you’re doing it for someone you love. On his miserable days, I can almost hear Jacob saying, “I’m doing this for her. She’s worth it!” Now let’s fast forward to the New Testament where Paul is writing to slaves about the kind of workers they should be if they belong to Jesus. He says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23-24 ). Notice it says, “whatever you do.” Whatever the job you have to do, whatever the conditions are like, remember that you’re doing it for Jesus as a servant of Christ, not the company; for His reward, not theirs; to make Him proud of you. So you do everything 100%. Why? For love; for the love of the One who loved you enough to die for you. So on your dark days, keep reminding yourself, “I’m doing this for You, Jesus, because I love You.” This radio program references: Genesis 29:20 ; Colossians 3:23-24 Learn how to share these articles with your friends (video tutorial) |
