Download MP3 (right click to save) Our daughter isn’t afraid to tackle a real parenting challenge, like teaching an eight-year-old boy the value of writing thank you notes for gifts he receives. That’s exactly what she’s been doing with our grandson. And while they were writing those notes, she said, “How are you going to remember to do this when I’m not around?” And he said, “The voice inside me that sounds like you.”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and think about it. There is a voice inside your son or daughter that sounds like you; that they’ll still be hearing after you’re gone. Just like the voice inside you from your mom and dad. So what’s your voice inside your child going to be hearing? It’s part of that irrevocable Biblical equation, “A man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7 ). We need to be thinking about what we’re sowing in the souls of our kids. Does that voice say, “God made something really special when He made you” or “You’re never good enough to please me?” Does it say, “I love you, no matter what” or “I love you if you perform?” “Jesus is a beautiful love relationship, my child” or “Jesus is rules and meetings?” ”What matters is eternal stuff” or “What matters is earth stuff?” Your son or daughter will be hearing your voice for a long time. Will it be a voice that builds them up or tears them down; that makes them love Jesus or want to avoid Him? Here’s a great promise for parents who sow good seed: “He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:6 ). Now, that’s the harvest of a life well lived. This radio program references: Galatians 6:7 ; Psalm 126:6 Learn how to share these articles with your friends (video tutorial) |
