Download MP3 (right click to save) I’ve got to be careful here. Some of my Oklahoma football fan friends might be listening. I’m about to say something nice about Tim Tebow, Florida State’s quarterback. They just beat Oklahoma in an exciting game for the national championship. Tim Tebow was named Offensive MVP. He passed the ball, he ran the ball in the same championship way that won him the 2007 Heisman Trophy. But after the convincing victory he led in the championship game, they showed the comments he made after his team’s only defeat of the season. And I thought it revealed the heart of a champion. Tim Tebow told the press that this loss was going to make him push himself and his team to become better than they’d ever been. The result is the trophy they took home from the big game. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and when you fail, when you’ve had a loss, you can do one of two things: let your defeat become discouragement, or let your defeat become determination. Champions aren’t people who never lose; they’re people who emerge determined to beat what made them lose. Maybe you’ve messed up recently and you feel like giving up. Well, I love the defiant repentance of this statement from God’s Word: “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light…He will bring me out into the light; I will see His righteousness…then my enemy will see it and will be covered with shame” (Micah 7:8-10 ). With Christ in your life, failure doesn’t ever have to be final, if you turn defeat into defiant determination to not lose again.
