Download MP3 (right click to save) Just before his 25th birthday, my friend Rob learned why he’d been having so many headaches and chronic hiccups. He had a large and dangerous brain tumor. He’s one of the strong young Native American leaders who are in the forefront of our On Eagles’ Wings reservation teams, and he’s been working at our headquarters on the massive preparations for our outreach to a dozen reservations and our national youth conference for Native young people. Well, suddenly he was facing major surgery and extensive post-operative treatment. Just before his surgery, my friend Rob told his mom he just had to get back to work because there was so much work to do. She told him what we had told him…not to worry about that. His answer went like an arrow to my soul: “Mom, every day there are people dying and going to hell. And I can’t just be lying here!”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Oh, that many of us who aren’t being held back physically would say the same thing–people are headed for hell and I can’t just be lying here! That’s similar to the conclusion reached by four Biblical lepers who tried to survive the starvation siege of their city by surrendering to the enemy. They found an abandoned enemy camp and a pile of abandoned food. As they stuffed themselves in the shadow of a starving city, they said: “We’re not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves” (2 Kings 7:9 ). Could that be us with the people right around us? We’re stuffed, they’re starving. They’re headed for an awful eternity. How can we by lying here? If you want to help some people be in heaven with you, I hope you’ll go to our website. That is what it’s about…ALifeThatMatters.org.
