Download MP3 (right click to save) Man, this has been a long presidential campaign, and have we heard every day about the issue of getting out of Iraq. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and there’s no way I’m going to wander into that political crossfire. But I thought of a more personal issue related to that. I guess I’d call it getting the “Iraq” out of me. I’m talking about the battles that can actually rob you of a life that matters. Iraq involves this insurgency that seems to keep a constant state of war going on. Well, there’s this revealing challenge about that going on inside us in the Bible. Here’s what it says, “Abstain from sinful desires which war against your soul” (1 Peter 2:11 ). Now that word ‘war’ in the original language of the Bible, is the word for a prolonged military campaign. And this says evil desires do that in your soul. And it’s true. Our dark passions, our wrong desires; they can lead to so many personal disasters. But we are not at their mercy. We can defend against them with that word ‘abstain’…like stay away. I’ve got to watch what I watch and listen to, because every time we watch or listen to or flirt with something that’s suggestive, or dirty, or that portrays sex wrongly, we’re sending ammunition to the very passions that are waging war against our soul. Face it; aren’t these things you can’t afford to let in your soul anymore? I mean, you’ve got the momentary thrill, and then you’ve got the endless battle of shame and defeat. There’s some ammunition for your battles at our website, and I would love to have you visit us there. It’s alifethatmatter.org, because you know God put you here to live a life that matters.
