I was watching the financial channel on TV, and it was one of those roller coaster days on Wall Street. I mean, the swing in the Dow Jones was incredible. And one guy—an old grizzled veteran—said, “Find something to hang onto, man!” Well, that’s actually good advice, because the ride is pretty fierce right now. I mean, gas prices are out of the roof, and there’s more people in danger of losing their homes than there has been in a long time, and it’s getting tough to get a loan, people are losing jobs.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and it’s a good time for all of us to do a little security check, like a bare knuckles honest answer to the question, “What am I ultimately counting on for my security?” Because a life that matters is anchored to something you can’t lose. That’s one reason I love this promise from the Bible. It’s talking about a man who has a love relationship with Almighty God. It says, “Surely he will never be shaken. He will have no fear of bad news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure. He will have no fear” (Psalm 112:7 ).

So if you belong to the Lord, through what His Son, Jesus, did on the cross for us, oh yeah you’ll still experience all the ups and downs and the jitters of the roller coaster ride, but you’re safe because you’re attached to the tracks. And the tracks are actually God’s larger plan for your life. So, the market isn’t going to decide what happens to you, or your mortgage, or your employer. Your Lord will decide.
