Her grandmother had been forced out of the village she lived in because she gave her heart to Christ. That meant her grandfather had to build a house down in the valley below the village, and here’s how he did it. Each day as he returned from work, he’d pick up a big rock and bring it home to help build that house.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I got to thinking this Father’s Day week, that’s how a home, that’s how a family is built like that man built it…one stone at a time, one day at a time. Which means, you’ve got to make every day count as another day to build your family. Here’s a great word for parents from God’s Word: “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12 ). Wisdom is using your days wisely. Our children don’t think of life as years, or months, or even weeks. For them, it’s all about today. And, in a sense, it needs to be that way for mom and dad, too. It’s all about making sure they feel loved today; making sure the boundaries are clear and consistent today; making sure we’ve affirmed their worth today. Each of those days is another stone in the building of their life, and you can already see how fast the days have flown by can’t you? We can’t have back any of those days that are already past, but we can make the rest of our days the best of our days.
