Download MP3 (right click to save) I’ve never forgotten how the show opened: “Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound—Superman!” That’s my hero, man. They called him the Man of Steel…unbeatable, unstoppable, except for one thing called Kryptonite. One piece of rock from Superman’s native planet and he was down, man. It’s the one thing he couldn’t beat. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I am no Superman, but I understand the Kryptonite thing…that we all have some things that have repeatedly brought us down spiritually. And just like Superman, we can’t afford to get near our spiritual Kryptonite. The command in the Bible is, “Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1 ). The question for today is, “What’s your spiritual Kryptonite?” It could be something you watch, listen to, or people who pull you away from Jesus; something you run to when you’re hurting, wrong relationships, things that are out-of-bounds sexually. Whatever it is, you cannot afford to flirt with it any more. Don’t fall for one of Satan’s tired old lies: “Just a little…just this once…everybody’s doing it.” God spells out how to defend against your Kryptonite, “Abstain from sinful desires” (1 Peter 2:11 ) he says. Don’t get anywhere close to what’s brought you down so many times. Aren’t you tired of gaining ground and then losing it again? “He is able to keep you from falling” (Jude 24 ) the Bible says, if you will—in the strength of Christ—never go near your Kryptonite again. There’s a lot more spiritual encouragement for you at our website. I hope you’ll check it out. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Hebrews 12:1 ; 1 Peter 2:11 ; Jude 24 |
