Download MP3 (right click to save) The Broadway show, 1776, movingly portrays those dramatic struggles that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of a nation. On the 2nd of July, it looked as if all was lost. There seemed no way all the thirteen colonies would vote for independence. John Adams has fought for the cause with everything he has, and now he’s frustrated and heartbroken. And he walks outside the hall and shouts into the night sky, “Is anyone there? Does anyone care? Does anyone see what I see?”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and you know what? Jesus knows that feeling, “Is anyone there? Does anyone care? Does anyone see what I see?” What does He see? The Bible says, “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few’” (Matthew 9:36-37 ). Jesus looks at the people around us: our neighbors, coworkers, fellow students, and He sees “lost”—people who are living life without its meaning and who are heading for an unspeakable eternity. That’s why He left the glory of heaven, to come here to die so they could live forever. But He’s left His message with us to deliver, and so often, we just don’t. We have the information on which their eternity depends, and we let our fear keep us from telling them. We need Jesus-eyes, then the people we’re with every day will never look the same. We’ll see them for who they really are—future inhabitants of eternity…heaven or hell. We can’t just leave them lost. There’s a lot more about how to take people you know to heaven with you at our website, ALifeThatMatters.org.
