Download MP3 (right click to save) In high school, our youngest son got a puppy, and even though I didn’t grow up with a dog, well, I found this little black-and-white Shih-Tzu puppy named Missy kind of cute. All day, while our son was in school, she’d basically just mope around the kitchen, but as soon as she heard him pulling into the driveway, she ran to the back door, her tail wagging furiously. Now, if our son went to his room, Missy went to his room. If he went to the basement, Missy went to the basement. If he went out in the yard, Missy went out in the yard. Her m. o. was pretty basic. She didn’t really care where she was, she just wanted to be wherever her master was. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I’ve got to tell you, I learned a lot from that little dog about what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Here’s what He said about our relationship with Him: “Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant will also be” (John 12:26 ). Now, if I belong to Jesus, my basic life assignment is to find out where He’s going in any particular situation and follow Him there, not to come with an agenda I want Him to bless, but with an empty piece of paper that He fills in with what He wants for me. “Jesus, where are You going with the work You’ve given me? Where are You going in my wife’s life? Where are You going in my children’s lives? How do You want to use the circumstances I’m going through right now to make me more like You? Where are You going with my future?” That’s the adventure of belonging to Jesus; following Him, one step at a time into a life bigger than I could ever plan. Our website’s all about that. I hope you’ll go visit us there, I think it will encourage you. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: John 12:26 |
