But little Joy was adopted by my friends who went a long way and paid a high price to rescue her from a Chinese orphanage. Well, she’s five now. She’s loving kindergarten. Her daddy was taking her outside to play when, out of nowhere, she said, “Daddy, thank you for picking me.” And then she added, “Thank you for picking me to be your daughter. I love you.”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft and my heart melted when I heard that, and it made me look up and say, “Daddy, thank You for picking me to be your son. I love you.” Because that is exactly the transaction that has taken place in the life of everyone who belongs to Jesus Christ. You’ve been adopted into the family of Almighty God! The Bible says that through God’s Holy Spirit, “…you received the spirit of adoption. And by Him, we cry, ‘Abba (or Daddy), Father’” (Romans 8:15 ). Jesus made this awesome promise to us: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:18 ). Even those of us who may have grown up in a whole family are, in Jesus’ words, spiritual orphans. We’re missing the Heavenly Father we were made for because we’ve chosen our sinful way instead of His. But Jesus came a long way, He paid a high price on the cross to remove our sin and bring us into God’s family from the day we commit our lives to Him. That’s the day you’re an orphan no more, because you belong to the One who made you for His love! Our website is there to help you be sure you’ve begun that relationship.
