Download MP3 (right click to save) I’ve seen a lot of earthquake scenes over years in the news, but I can’t remember any that have touched me so much as all those children of the earthquake in the massive quake in China. There were over 4,000 orphans left by that quake. There’s been a major counseling emergency with kids because tens of thousands of them had their whole world suddenly cave in around them. Of course that doesn’t just happen in earthquakes. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I’ve worked with an awful lot of young people over the years and they’ve struggled to live a life that matters because of the trauma they’ve experienced in the quake in their family—the anger and the conflict and the attacks and the names they’ve been called. You know, in a family the father is the thermostat, he sets the temperature. The mother’s the thermometer, she reflects the temperature. And the children…well, they’re the seismograph. They register every disturbance in the family. So if your son or daughter’s struggling, well think about this. Could their problem be because of our problems? The Bible says one reason our prayers don’t get answered is because in God’s words, “You have broken faith with the person you pledged your life to” (Malachi 2:14-15 ). And, “The Lord has made them one,” and why one; because He was seeking Godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith with the one you married. You know if the seismograph is going off in a child of yours, consider if it isn’t time to get your family shored up before it all caves in. If you’re looking for some more spiritual encouragement, I hope you go to our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters.
