Download MP3 (right click to save) There was a time when the woman who’s First Lady was checking out this skinny law student named Barack Obama. He was interested in Michelle, but she wanted to know what he was really like. So she asked her basketball coach brother to get Barack into a pickup ballgame. Not to see how good his ball skills were, but to see what kind of person he was. Well, the real guy does tend to surface in the intensity of sports. Did this Obama guy hog the ball? How did he handle cheap shots? Did he nit-pick fouls? The scouting report must have come back OK; you know the rest of the story. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and in sports, in relationships, in business, in stressful moments, there’s a way that a guy proves he’s a man. Here’s what God says about real manhood: “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city” (Proverbs 16:32 ). Now in our culture, you prove you’re a man by conquest; you conquer in sports, you conquer in business, you conquer a woman. The Bible says what proves you’re a man is about conquest—can you conquer yourself, your temper, your mouth, your addictions? A lot of us have found that we needed outside help to conquer the dark side of ourselves. That’s why so many men have chosen the Ultimate Man as their Leader–Jesus Christ—strong enough to banish demons and conquer death; loving enough to lay down His life for our junk. Strangely, the secret of being a moral conqueror is to be conquered by the Son of God. You make that choice for one compelling reason. As one man in the Bible said, “He loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 ). If you want to know more about having a relationship with Him, check out our website—ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Proverbs 16:32 ; Galatians 2:20 |
