Download MP3 (right click to save) It’s that “changing seasons” time of the year. About time to start changing clothes; to go through the wardrobe and put away the short sleeves, get out the long sleeves. It won’t be long before it will be time to break out the sweaters. At different seasons, different clothes, right, but same skin.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I have different clothes for a formal occasion, for speaking to teenagers, for the beach, for nighty-night time. But one thing never changes. I never change my skin. Which leads me to ask, “Is your relationship with Jesus clothes that you change for the occasion or skin that’s so much a part of you that you never change it?” God says, “Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2 ). One translation says, “Don’t let the world squeeze you into its mold.” Something’s very wrong if you put on Jesus for when you’re in Christian surroundings and take Him off when you’re not. A Jesus-you for Sunday, another you for Monday, the school you, the work you, the sports you, the driving you, the party you, the business you, the behind closed doors you. There’s a word for that—hypocrisy. It’s spiritual schizophrenia. And it hugely dishonors the Jesus who paid for your life with His blood. Not just for a piece of your life. Let the seasons change, let the environment change, but don’t you change, follower of Jesus. Make your identity in Him, not clothes that you change for the occasion, but spiritual skin that’s who you are wherever you are!
