Download MP3 (right click to save) I was on one field working with our high school football team, and my 12-year-old son was on another field playing a pickup game of football. When he came looking for me, I could tell by the look on his face and the distorted shape of the arm he was holding what had happened. The doctor at ER confirmed he had two bad breaks in his arm, and the pain of setting that arm was excruciating. Of course, he could have avoided the pain of getting it fixed by just leaving it broken, right? And just living the rest of his life with an arm that didn't work. I'm Ron Hutchcraft. Sadly, many of us who are broken on the inside or in one of our most important relationships won't do what it takes to get it fixed. Because the process will hurt, opening up all that pain, facing issues you'd rather bury, possibly having to make some challenging changes. So we just stay broken with that whole part of us dysfunctional. The Bible records what you might call the strangest question Jesus ever asked. At a pool people believed had healing powers, Jesus met a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years. And He asked him, "Do you want to get well?" (John 5:6 ). You would think he would immediately say, "Yes." Instead, he just started complaining about people not helping him. Our merciful Savior ended up healing the man, but the question is still there for all of us. "Do you want to get well?" Are you ready to move beyond being the victim? Would you rather keep living with the pain than pay the price to get it fixed? Yes, it will be hard to face it, but that is how you'll be healed and you'll be whole for the rest of your life.
