The year they’ll never forget was the year that little Harold wanted to be in the play. He was a little slow and, to be honest, a risk to put on stage. But the director decided to give him a chance to play the innkeeper. He only had one line, “I’m sorry. We have no room.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and right on schedule Joseph and Mary came to the door of the set that was painted like the Bethlehem Inn. Joseph knocked. Harold almost knocked the inn over as he struggled to open the door. Then came a long silence. The director whispered, “I’m sorry. We have no room.” Finally, Harold managed to say it. Then he shut the door right on cue. What happened next was not on cue. As Joseph and Mary began to leave sadly, the set began to shake again as Harold frantically opened the door again to the horror of the director. Then the moment no one would ever forget as Harold shouted into the night, “Wait! Wait! You can have my room!” On this Christmas Day, I can’t think of anything that better sums up the central issue of Christ’s coming; the intensely personal issue. Have you ever opened the door of your life to Jesus? It’s not about believing His beliefs or practicing His religion. It’s about inviting Him in to take charge of the life He gave you and the life He gave His life for. It’s the day we celebrate Jesus coming into our world. What better day to welcome Him into your life? Merry Christmas! This radio program references: Luke 2:7 |
