Download MP3 (right click to save) I loved the sunsets over Lake Ontario in New York State this summer. God used the setting sun to finger paint those clouds around it so the sky was glowing with a beautiful rainbow of colors. Then something else struck me. It was worth sticking around after the sunset. The sun was gone, but for quite a while afterwards it left behind this glorious afterglow—like some people I’ve known.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and that sunset afterglow sheds light on a great goal to shoot for with the rest of the time God gives us here: live so you will leave beauty after you’re gone. Do all you can to encourage people daily. Be the one who believes in people so they have the confidence to do what God put them here to do. Do all you can to fix those strained relationships. Don’t fall for the late-in-life tendencies to get bitter or whiney or negative or critical or cranky; those are the dark clouds that obscure the glow. Use your money to help others, not yourself. Invest all you can in eternal causes that will long outlive you. Come out of hiding with your faith and start seeking and taking opportunities to tell the people around you about Jesus so that your legacy will be people who are in heaven with you forever. Claim the promise of Psalm 92 , “The righteous…will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright; He is my Rock” (Psalm 92:13-15 ). So when your sun has set, you will leave behind beauty that will outlive you! This radio program references: Psalm 92:13-15 |
