Lewis fans, Narnia is a magical place that he created where four children are caught up in centuries old battles between good and evil and where the ultimate ruler is the lion king, Aslan, who’s Lewis’ Christ figure in Narnia. Now recently these Chronicles of Narnia have been unfolding on movie screens; most recently with Prince Caspian. Now in the first story, Peter is the oldest of the children. He’s become king. Magically the children are brought back when new battles are raging for Narnia. But this time Peter makes a mistake of not waiting for guidance from Aslan on how to fight the powerful forces of evil and he launches an attack that seems pretty well conceived and it fails miserably and it cost many lives. In the midst of the battle his sister asks him a question that continues to haunt me: “Exactly who are you doing this for?” A question Jesus may be asking some of us about the work we’re doing. I’m Ron Hutchcraft. One reviewer said about the movie, “Some of Narnia’s most exotic creatures were sacrificed on the altar of Peter’s self-importance.” Ouch! How many people have been sacrificed on the altar of your self-importance or mine? The Bible pointedly asks, “Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not” (Jeremiah 45:5 ). A life that matters is lived for one great outcome: “Whatever you do,” the Bible says, “do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31 ). So exactly who are you doing all this for? If you’re looking for more spiritual challenge and encouragement, go to our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Jeremiah 45:5 ; 1 Corinthians 10:31 |
