Kiefer Sutherland plays hero Jack Bauer, who routinely has to save the world. While ramping up to the new season, they ran a special 2-hour TV movie called “Redemption”. It’s a title more appropriate than they may know. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and a major national magazine carried an interview with the man who plays Jack Bauer. The title: “Heart of Darkness: Drinking to forget with TV’s hottest action hero.” That’s sad to read. Kiefer Sutherland said: “I should be able to wake up in the morning without going, ‘Oh, no! Where’s my boot?’ Or ‘Where am I?’ Or ‘One of your friends didn’t happen to bring my car home, did they?’ I don’t want to live like that.” He said, “I have a few drinks and I’m not so worried about tomorrow and not thinking about yesterday. Then the next day, I go, ‘Oh God, don’t let me do that again.’ So why do I do it again? And again? And again?’” A man with so much going for him and a losing battle with a darkness that keeps dragging him down. Sadly, his story isn’t unique. We all battle a deep inner darkness that is our worst and most powerful enemy. That’s why I’m so grateful for the hope of being rescued. And hope has a name. That name is Jesus. The Bible says, “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption” (Colossians 1:13 , 14). He didn’t just risk His life to save us. He gave His life; nailed to a cross. He’s waiting to rescue anyone who pins all their hopes on Him including you. Go to our website for more on that, would you? It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Colossians 1:13-14 |
