Be a Presence!Okay, so let me be pretty honest with you - I have found myself in a dry spell in my personal evangelism efforts. It's not that I'm not trying to be involved in the lives of people who are not believers. It's more to the point that I'm not seeing a lot of responsiveness to my efforts.

Have you ever been there? I'm reminded of the words of Jesus that if we will abide in Him, we will bear much fruit (John 15:5 ). So I know it's His desire to use me, but I still seem to be going through a dry spell.

Here are a few thoughts or ideas I have right now that may reveal the truth of this season in my life. It may be that you are there with me or you may be there in the future, so see if any of these things may be true of your experience.

  • God may be using this time period primarily to purify me. "Every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful" (John 15:2 ).
  • My methods of getting into people's lives may not be as thorough and consistent as they need to be.
  • Perhaps my prayer life could use some attention and not focus so much on my ability or persuasiveness.
  • There could be things in the way of my "use-ability" that I can't see right now.
  • It may not be that I'm doing something wrong in my walk, but perhaps God is just using me in ways that I cannot detect with human eyes and ears and won't know about until eternity.
  • I may be on the brink of some real breakthrough and it just hasn't been in God's timing yet.
  • It could be a strange mixture of all the above.

So the question is this: What do you do when you're in a dry spell? And my answer is simply this: I'm going to continue being a presence in the lives of people who are lost and I'm going to trust that God will use me for His purposes even when I can't detect results. As the old saying goes, "Stay pure, show up, and see what God does!"

Are you finding yourself in a dry spell? What is your reaction to this? Let me hear from you.
