The Doomsday Clock to Move Again!Doomsday Clock

The famous Doomsday Clock is expected to be moved once again after sitting idle for three years. The Clock, established by nuclear scientists back in the 1940s, is a visible prediction of global catastrophe, with the hands of the clock moving in response to changing world events (Read the Fox News Report).

The biggest question on everyone's mind is which way it will be moved - toward or away from the Doomsday midnight hour? The moving of the Clock is a good reminder of another Clock in existence. It is the Clock of Life and each one of us is on our own timetable. In the Bible, Hebrews 9:27 reminds us "...man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment."

Your Clock

Though it's not the most encouraging verse in the Bible, it's one we need to be willing to wrestle with. While we cannot predict the time we have left on earth, we need to be ready for the time when we will take our last breath. In fact, it is God's will for you to be ready and He tells us how.

A group of people came to Jesus and asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" In other words, what really is the main thing if I want to please God and get my ticket to heaven? Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent" (John 6:28-29 ). A simple definition of the word believe in this verse isn't just an intellectual belief in God, but also a commitment of your life to Him. It's the picture of a drowning person wrapping their arms around a rescue swimmer as if they are their only hope. This is what it means to "believe in the one he has sent."

Your Response

To make this kind of decision, a person must first realize they are drowning from doing life their own way apart from their Creator and they've got to come to grips with the fact that God loves them no matter what they've done in life. He wants you to experience his forgiveness and grace. The choice is yours. God is waiting. Time is running out...literally.
