Does Your God Have a Sense of Humor? As my wife and I finished a ridiculous argument over something completely insignificant one evening, I decided I would go into town (slamming the door, pouting and venting) and rent a movie. Once I picked out the movie I wanted to watch, I got in my truck to head back home when my truck decided to go defunct. I had no electrical power,no lights, no connection to the engine. Nothing. It was just me, my movie, my bad attitude, a dark summer night, and a pitch black truck. By this time, it was after 10:00 pm. My anger only increased and I know God knew it because of what was about to happen next.

Not having any tools I would need to dissect the problem, I happened to look up and notice a guy coming toward me. He worked in the pizza place right next door to the movie rental. And let's just say his physical appearance didn't make me feel any better about the situation. I braced myself for what would happen next. Turns out, Jeff was one of the kindest guys I'd ever met. And he not only had the right tools available that I would need to get my truck back into working condition, but he also had a very empty heart.

As a small way of saying thanks for his help, I handed him a Gospel tract and was looking to finally make my way back home when God had other plans.Turns out Jeff had one unbelievable life story that unfolded almost without prompting. From years of drug abuse to three suicide attempts, he was more than in need of a Savior. He was desperate for hope. And it's just like God to have put me in this situation: angry with my wife, angry with my truck, very tired and now in a witnessing situation with one of the most needy people on the planet. Gee, thanks God!

Despite my terrible attitude, God provided me with the opportunity that night to share a complete Gospel presentation with Jeff and I basically pleaded with him to give his life over to Jesus. But one thing stood in the way. He just couldn't bring himself to accept God's forgiveness for everything he had done. Heartbreaking. I had done everything I felt I could do, said everything I knew to say, but I knew it was time for the conversation to come to an end. We ended the conversation on good terms, but no doubt both of us left feeling quite empty and for different reasons. Him because he was still without a Savior, and me because I couldn't get him past his doubt.

Even though this didn't have a happy ending, the experience was a reminder that God can use us even in our worst moments. Are you putting God on hold until you have everything in your life cleaned up and worked out? Let this story be an encouragement to let God use even your warts to reach out to others who need Him. And you'll soon discover that indeed, God wants to use you and sometimes He will even display His sense of humor.
