It can be equally as challenging for us as parents to make sure we are as prepared as we need to be to face the day. But out of all the details that we must give attention to, there's one thing that we simply cannot afford to leave home without: a heart-connection with our heavenly Father. While I'm not implying that our relationship with God should be a turn-on turn-off kind of relationship, there is profound value in starting each day with intentionality of meeting with God and truly connecting our heart with His. Jesus is our greatest example of this. "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed" (Mark 1:35 ). And we see the fruit of this by how He lived His life on earth. "The Son can do nothing by himself; He can do only what He sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does" (John 5:19 ). It's not the length of your devotional time that guarantees a deep heart-connection with God. It's more of a combination of how hungry we are to meet with Him, and what He is wanting to accomplish in our lives. "For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose" (Philippians 4:13 ). Why do we need daily God-encounters? So we can worship Him, get to know Him more, receive discernment in decision-making, replace our earthly perspective with His, be ready to show the Jesus-difference in our lives, and to tell others about Him. How are you doing when it comes to connecting each day with the heart of God? |

Getting our kids out the door each day for school is an experience that often feels like organized chaos. If you have smaller children in the home, I'm sure you can relate. So many things to remember and so little time to correct any mistakes, like forgetting homework or leaving lunch money on the counter.
