The Problem With EvangelismThe problem with evangelism is not just that we have made evangelism optional. The bigger problem is that we have made God optional. The absence of evangelism is not an evangelism problem. It's a God problem.

If evangelism is the byproduct of a close relationship with God that is made possible by His grace and our obedience (John 15:8 ), then it goes without saying that when reading God's Word on a regular basis becomes optional and prayer becomes optional, evangelism goes out the door. When a man loving his wife as Christ loves the church becomes optional, and when unconditional respect by a woman for her husband becomes optional, and couples become satisfied with an average marriage, evangelism goes out the door.

When Christ-followers make regular fellowship with other believers optional, and when giving to God through the local church becomes optional, evangelism goes out the door. Here's the bottom line: you cannot compartmentalize and separate your personal walk with Jesus from your effectiveness in winning the people you love and care about to Jesus.

What areas of the Christian life are you treating as optional that could be hindering your evangelism?
