We all make "Happy Assumptions," as my good friend calls them. It's as if the less we know about a situation, the happier we are to assume "everything is okay."But there is a certain category of assumptions that may be the most damaging assumptions of all. We assume certain things when it comes to reaching lost people with the Gospel. Here are the top three assumptions some friends and I came up with in this area. Perhaps you can come up with even more. First, we assume that "someone else" will reach the people we love and care about with the Gospel. It will be our spiritually qualified family member or the godly co-worker across the hall who will reach them. Or our pastor will eventually get to them. After all, isn't that why we hired him? But have you considered the idea that you may be the one person God wants to use to reach the people in your circle of influence?Second, we assume we have more time to reach people. Just this week, a 31 year old Olympic gold medalist died from a fall, over 200 people lost their lives when their plane disappeared over the Atlantic, a 25 year old man died from a brain tumor, and an 18 year old young man in my home town died within 100 yards of his house when his truck rolled over as he was returning from high school graduation. We assume we have more time. For more on this, I encourage you to read my blog called 30 Days to Live. Third, we assume that lost people completely understand the Gospel. They are clear on what Jesus came to the earth to do for them; they are just rejecting Him. While in Chicago I spoke with a man who had never even heard the name Jesus Christ. While in seminary, I spotted two men who were providing some type of facility maintenance service for the school just outside one of our campus buildings. As I approached them and introduced myself to them, I asked a simple question, "Has anyone ever shown you from the Bible how you can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?" They both replied no and asked for me to share with them. And after a brief Gospel presentation using my pocket New Testament, they both prayed and made a commitment of their life to Christ. Let me leave you with a few questions to think about. Who is one person in your life whose eternity will hang in the balance unless you act? What's at the root of your desire to "buy more time" before you communicate Christ's love to the lost around you? And who have you given up on that is yet to make a decision to follow Jesus? It's time we act. In fact, why don't you make a commitment to the Lord that within the next 48 hours, you will make a faith-based decision to engage someone you care about in a spiritual conversation. Who knows but that their time or yours could be running out? Learn how to share these articles with your friends (video tutorial) |

Have you ever thought about all the assumptions we make on a daily basis? Like assuming your kids completed their homework? Or assuming that "someone" on the committee made sure the venue for the fund raiser was secured? Or assuming you had the job for as long as you wanted it, only to find out that your company is about to downsize?
