How to Experience The Most Out of Christmas - Part 1If your family is like mine, the exciting anticipation of Christmas grows day by day and everyone is wondering more and more what will be wrapped under the tree for them. Having three children, one now grown and on her own, my wife and I are especially excited to see the looks on our kid's faces when they open the much anticipated gifts with their name on it. "I wonder if it's what I think it is," they say as they pick it up and shake it.

And if your family is like mine, there is also a desire at Christmastime to bless people outside of our family. It could include the not-so-fortunate or it could simply be the people right next door. Either way, it is during the Christmas season when we experience the undeniable truth that it is definitely more blessed to give than to receive.

But there's yet another group of people who could really benefit from you this Christmas season. It's the people in your world who will go through yet another Christmas without ever knowing the Christ of Christmas. Let me encourage you to get out of your mind the idea that it's the preacher's job or your church's job to help people find the Savior. God has a very unique role for you to play in getting the word out about His Son.

The next two blogs will also be committed to sharing ideas of how to bless the people around you this Christmas in ways that can matter most and truly impact the people you care about for eternity. After all, they need the same opportunity you and I have had - a chance at Jesus. Here are the first two ideas that are very simple and anyone could do with minimal effort.

  1. Send Christmas Cards
    1. Intentionally identify lost people you can send a Christmas card to.
    2. Seek out Christmas cards that effectively communicate to lost people.
    3. Identify Jewish friends; send Hanukkah Cards.
    4. Write a personal note.
    5. Include a copy of "Born to Rescue" booklet by Ron Hutchcraft, or other evangelistic tracts or booklets.
  2. Reach out through social networks such as Facebook.

If Facebook were a country, it would be the 3rd largest country in the world, currently positioned with 350 million users. If you are a Facebook user, you know how Facebook works. And there is likely a good percentage of your Facebook friends who do not know Jesus. Use Christmas as a time to reach out to these friends.

    1. Send them a private message through Facebook. Nurture these relationships.
    2. Post a status that shares your heart about what Jesus means to you at Christmas.
    3. Look for open doors to share the Christ of Christmas.

Stay tuned for the next two blogs as we discuss other ideas for how to experience the most out of Christmas this season by being a blessing to others.
