Is Your Faith Disconnected?Unfortunately, many of us will believe God in faith to keep us out of hell, but we would never ask Him to help us fix our marriage, help us raise our kids, or trust in Him to provide for our needs if we were to give sacrificially to others. There seems to be a huge disconnect between saving faith (I believe Jesus died and rose again for me) and daily faith (I'm believing God to help me find a good job).

Along with many factors, what seems to be missing is the fundamental understanding that when we enter into a personal relationship with Jesus, we've entered just that - a personal relationship, not a religion or set of rules to live by. This relationship can only be fully realized when it is cultivated just like any other relationship.

Your relationship with Jesus is cultivated by spending time with Him in prayer, reading His Word, doing what He says, and spending time with others who are seeking to do His will with all their heart. The more we get to know Jesus, the more others will come to trust in Him. The more we trust Him, the more we grow to love Him. And the more we love Him, the more we want to get to know Him.

Here are a few facts about daily faith:

  • It is impossible to please God without it. (Hebrews 11:6 )
  • You are guaranteed not to grow spiritually without it. (Hebrews 3:12 )
  • It is not a feeling, but rather a supernatural gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8 )
  • It must be accompanied by specific actions or else it will die. (James 2:17 )
  • It grows the more we are exposed to the truths of God's Word. (Romans 10:14 )
  • It is not something we can muster up on our own for the purpose of bringing about a desired result.
  • It is not the secret to a happy life, but it is the means to accessing God's grace and power into your life no matter what the circumstances may be. (Hebrews 4:16 )

What should you do if you want your faith in God to grow? Here are some suggestions from someone who struggles in the area of faith:

  • Ask God to increase it. (Luke 17:5 )
  • Act on the faith you already have. (Matthew 14:30 )
  • Expose yourself more and more to the reading, preaching, and teaching of God's Word.
  • Be willing to ask God to do the impossible.
  • Spend time with faith-filled people.
  • Get involved sharing His word with others. (Philemon 6 )
