Every day, 150,000 people will go into eternity, ready or not. And most of them not. The Bible gives the descriptions of two places that hold people's eternities - heaven and hell. Today we will try our best to discuss hell, and in our next blog we will discuss the place called heaven.
There's no way that our human minds can comprehend the place that the Bible calls hell. The concept of an eternal place of torment by fire has fascinated many, scared some, and has become the laughing stock of much of the lost world. Sadly, it has become a place where millions are heading and the Church merely shrugs a shoulder, much like we do at a dirty house that needs to be cleaned but nobody wants to mess with it.

Of all the modern technologies in the world, I think the one I have appreciated the most is the DVR. A DVR attaches to your TV much like the old VHS player and gives you the ability to record your favorite shows and movies as they are playing on TV, but there are no tapes to keep up with. What I love most about it is the ability to hit "pause" when I am interrupted with something so that I don't miss the last second shot in the game, and I can hit "rewind" if I want to see something again that had value. My kids love to hit rewind when watching America's Funniest Home Videos and watch the really funny parts over and over again...like the man who tried to snow ski off his rooftop and land in the back of a pickup, only to have misjudged the distance and landed on his backside on the ground.

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Innovate 09 Conference at Granger Community Church, South Bend, Indiana. This was one of the greatest conferences for churches I have ever attended. One of the reasons, the host church was very intentional to celebrate the Body of Christ. At most conferences held for churches, the host church typically uses the stage as a platform to display their band, speaker, creative arts, etc. and basically communicate "this is how we do it and we would love for you to learn from us." While there's not anything wrong with this necessarily, Granger approached things differently.

Today's generation is really no different than the generations that have gone before us in at least one respect - we, like them, spend considerable time reflecting on our own ideas of what God must be like. Does God have a deep belly-laugh in heaven? Or is He an Irish tenor? Does He cry and have a range of other emotions like we do? What is His character really like? Is He truly as loving as people say He is and can He be trusted?
