| When a Neighbor Becomes a Hero |

Wow, some years almost have a tornado-a-day season, but tragedies can also turn every day people into heroes. It happened in a town in Minnesota not long ago. Several houses were leveled in a neighborhood. As one neighbor emerged from his damaged house, he heard the screams of a husband trapped under a house that had totally collapsed. The man was screaming for his kids. So this neighbor flew into action. He actually pulled the family out of what had once been their house, and in the end, that neighbor saved the lives of seven people in his neighborhood because he forgot about himself. He just couldn't let them be lost. Something happened in my heart one day when I realized what a lot of those Christian words I'd always used were really all about. Words like "witnessing" and "evangelism," "sharing faith" - kind of worn out old words, but it comes alive when you think of it in this context from the Bible: "Rescue those who are being led away to death" (Proverbs 24:11). Now that's what talking about Jesus really is. It's rescue - realizing that our neighbors and our co-workers and our fellow students are trapped in this deadly situation unless a rescuer goes in with the only One who can save them. See, Jesus did the dying; it's up to me to do the telling. Talk about a life that matters - being used by God to help change the eternal address of someone you care about, if you'll forget about yourself because you just can't leave them lost. We want to help you be a rescuer. That's why our website's there. It's ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. |
