I don't know what you think of when I say "wall," but a marathon runner probably thinks of that point in a grueling 26-mile run, when his body is shutting down and doesn't feel like it can go another step. What their body has to give is used up and it's saying, "Quit now!" But champions don't. Champions hit the wall and they keep on running to the finish line no matter how much they want to give up. Finishing a race sometimes takes everything you've got and more - especially if you're the Son of God. Jesus, the Bible says, poured Himself out to meet endless needs and amazing miracles, and He ran a perfect race. He hit the wall in the Garden of Gethsemane, but He kept going ... for you and me. The Bible says, "(Jesus) knelt down and prayed, 'Father if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.' ... And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground." (Luke 22:42; 44) Jesus was under unbearable stress! He dreaded carrying all our sin to the cross and having His Father turn His back on Him. |
