If you've ever had a goldfish, you know just what happens to them. You put them in a little goldfish bowl and they just keep swimming and swimming—trying to get out of the bowl. Then about three days later you have to put them in the other bowl. They live such short lives.
The crazy thing is that when a goldfish is put in that little bowl, it starts to produce an enzyme that keeps it from growing. When you take it out of the bowl and put it in a big pond, it starts to grow and grow into everything it could possibly become. If only it could get out of that goldfish bowl.
Are you in a spiritual goldfish bowl? If you get out now, God has so much more for you than you’ve ever experienced before. He wants to introduce you to the big pond you were made for.
God’s people are restless to move out of the confinement of a spiritual goldfish bowl. Though you may believe all the right beliefs, go to all the right meetings, and do the right things, maybe you feel that there's something more. There is still a big pond out there God has prepared for you. He wants to do something amazing through you. He is asking you to be a rescuer of others who are in need of a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

You set up shop, pray for a nice day, and then somebody comes along, likes the price, buys your stuff, and it becomes their stuff. Certain occupations require a particularly strong self-image. For example, a dentist needs a strong self-image because everyone dreads what they do. You also probably need a pretty strong self-image to be an IRS agent. How about a baseball umpire? Everybody thinks they can see better than the umpire, yelling when they don't agree with a call, “Hey, are you blind?” Fans comment on the intelligence of the umpire when they disagree, but you cannot have baseball without umpires. Imagine the players trying to agree on whether a guy was safe or out at second base. That would end the game right there! How about letting the fans decide? There would be chaos without the umpire. The Mission You Were Made For

"I love to spend a couple of days in Ocean City, New Jersey, right along the Atlantic Coast. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the middle of the country, where I never knew what an ocean was. We like to rent bikes and ride the long boardwalk there at Ocean City very early in the morning, when hardly anybody else is around. At one end is this white building with the initials O.C.B.P., which stand for Ocean City Beach Patrol. Occasionally, you’ll see the lifeguards meeting there early in the morning, discussing their day’s assignments. If you’re at the beach, you don’t want them meeting in their little building in the afternoon. Mr. Lifeguard is up where he’s supposed to be—in his high chair—and he’s focused on the people in the water. That’s how one of them, several years ago when I was there, spotted three children who were in trouble—perhaps about to drown. He cleared the beach, got the other lifeguards, plunged in, and saved those kids. It’s a good thing they weren’t having a lifeguard meeting up on the boardwalk."
