Your Mirror, Your Friend

A house with no mirrors means you'll never know what needs to be worked on. Most of us wouldn't want a house with no mirrors. But some of us are trying to live our life with no mirrors. Human mirrors, that is. People who, figuratively speaking, hold up a mirror and show us some things about ourselves that we may not want to hear but we really need to hear.

God's Opening Line

When the angel appeared to tell Mary the miracle part she was going to play in Christ's coming, early on he said these words, "Do not be afraid, Mary" (Luke 1:30). How about the angel's announcement to Joseph about his part in it? "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife" (Matthew 1:20). But this "fear not" is not just in the Christmas story. It's all through the Bible in God's dealings with people. On numerous occasions in the Old Testament when God's people were facing a variety of challenges, God said these words over and over again, "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).

Of the many words we could use to describe the effects of these harsh realities in our lives, perhaps one of the most fitting would be...stress. In addition to the "usual" day-to-day stress of getting our children to school on time or closing a business deal, we are now faced with the responsibility of selecting a president we feel is competent in leading our country forward, and we as a nation are grasping for tangible ways to survive a continual downward spiral in the economy. And still for some, each day is the reality of having everything and everyone that was meaningful to them taken away and they are left wondering why and where to turn for help.

RHM Financial Update

We thank God and you for the tremendous outpouring of prayer and financial support to rescue the spiritually dying through RHM. Check out the end of this article for a summary of the major accomplishments you have helped achieve.

Like many other ministries this year, RHM has received less income than our budget called for, but through the grace of God we have been able to adjust our spending to keep our budget close to balanced and still accomplish most of the 2008 rescue goals. Only two major rescue projects are currently pending.
