Download MP3 (right click to save) Captain Ivan Castro is a part of those elite U.S. soldiers know as the Special Forces, but even there he’s one of a kind. He’s the only blind officer serving in the Special Forces. He had paratrooped into a battle in Iraq when a mortal round landed just five feet away from him and the explosion took his sight, but even with his sight gone he refuses to give up. He’s remained in the Special Forces not as a charity case, but as an active executive officer at Special Forces Headquarters. He says, “I want to work every day and have a mission.” Man, I love that! I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Now if that man can keep soldiering when he’s lost his sight, what was that I was complaining about? What do I let get me down? Those who are committed to a life that matters refuse to stop fighting no matter what the wounds—like Paul. He paid almost every imaginable price for his loyalty to Christ. He said, “We are dying and yet we live on; beaten and not yet killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything” (2 Corinthians 6:9-10 ). Now with the same Savior living in us, with the same eternal cause to fight for, how can we withdraw because we’ve taken a few hits? We let our wounds take us into the downward spiral of self-pity and self-focus. We serve a Savior who stopped for nothing in the completion of His rescue mission for us. How can we let out wounds take us out of the battle? I may be wounded, but I refuse to stop fighting. More weapons for your battles at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters.
