If you’re a baseball card collector like my son has been, you’re hoping the stars on your cards become the stars in the playoffs and the World Series because that card will suddenly become more valuable, but that’s not what really makes a card valuable. Take the card of Honus Wagner, for example, one of the early baseball sluggers. It sold recently for a half million dollars—a piece of cardboard—but see there’s only a few of them. That’s true of any collectible. The less there are, the more valuable they are.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and you know that’s true of people too? There are certain kinds of people that are increasingly rare in our permissive culture. Like virgins, for example. Now the Inventor of sex has made clear how His awesome gift is supposed to be handled. The Bible says, “It is God’s will that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable” (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 ).

The Bible says that sex at its best is reserved for those who keep it inside the fence that God put around it—the fence called marriage. Those who choose to protect their sexual purity are holding out for God’s best and they don’t want to spoil a life that matters. Oh, if you do that you’ll take some shots and some ridicule. They’ll call you weird, but if you’re committed to sexual purity you’re not weird, you’re rare. And the less there are like you, the more valuable you become. Don’t give that away for anything.
