I was intrigued by this opening line in a recent USA Today article, “Religion today in the USA is a salad bar where people heap on upbeat beliefs they like and often leave the veggies behind,” which basically allows people to believe whatever suits them. Now the scary thing about that is that the Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 16:25 ). Now you can be wrong about a lot of things and it won’t cost you everything, but you can’t afford to be wrong about God.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and God has served up real spiritual truth and the blueprint for a life that matters by putting His truth in a book, the Bible. Here’s what the Bible says, “All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16 ). The Bible—forty authors from diverse backgrounds, writing over 1600 years, but they sound like one author because ultimately there was only One. God has spoken, and the salad bar is closed.

So many ideas about God and sin and life and death and eternity, but you have to ask one question, “Based on what?” I can’t just believe what sounds good to me. God has spoken in the book He breathed, the book that has transformed millions of lives for 2,000 years. You can bet your life on the Bible and only the Bible.
