Download MP3 (right click to save) The other day a friend of mine was reflecting on these crazy times we’re in financially. She said, “Nobody’s really sure where we should put our money.” That’s a question worth thinking about. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and one of those days when bedrock financial institutions in America were going down, I remembered a story someone told me years ago. It was a man his father had seen the day after the Stock Market crashed in 1929. He saw this man outside a bank that was gated shut, pounding his fists bloody on the gate, screaming, “Give me my money!” Everything he’d counted on was gone. Thankfully, our country has taken a lot of steps to safeguard as much as they can against a day like that. But as we look at retirement funds, savings accounts, tanking home values, my friend’s question still hangs out there, waiting for an answer. “Where should we put our money?” Jesus weighed in on that question. Here’s what He said: ”Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21 ). Jesus’ investment advice: invest in what will last forever–His work on earth. When you support a life-changing work of God, when you use your money to help the powerless or the lost, you are “storing up treasures in heaven.” The dividends are lives you touch, lives you save eternally; dividends you will meet in heaven someday. It’s the only money you’ll never lose, because the safest place to put your money is in Eternity, Inc.
