I love to watch a sunrise or a sunset, except the sun doesn’t rise or set. It doesn’t go anywhere. It just looks like we’re the center of everything and the sun revolves around us. The American Scientific Affiliation actually did a survey and found that 21% of Americans said they think the sun revolves around the earth, and 7% don’t know. Well, here’s the results of God’s survey in the Bible. One hundred percent of the human race thinks the world revolves around them. Maybe that’s why the middle letter of sin is “I”.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and the greatest saboteur of a life that matters is the sin that’s really the mother of all messes on this planet–pride. William Barclay said, “Pride is the ground in which all the other sins grow and the parent from which all the other sins come.” See, pride is what cost Lucifer heaven when he said “I will be like the Most High” and was cast out to be the devil forever. Pride is what cost Adam and Eve paradise when they believed Satan’s lie that, “You can be like God.” Satan knows the destructive power of pride. He uses it to try to destroy you, your relationship with God and your close relationships. Pride is the mother of all jealousy, all selfishness, deception, abuse of all kinds, because pride is essentially self-importance. What I want is more important than anything else.

We are not the sun–God is. ”God resists the proud” (1 Peter 5:5 ) the Bible says. My pride makes God stand against me. That’s too high a price to pay. Andrew Murray said, “It is from our pride that we need above everything to be redeemed.”
