Download MP3 (right click to save) In the midst of all the crazy news we get these days, sometimes you hear these stories that are totally cool. I like this one. It was actually Amber Birdsall’s seventh birthday, and she opened this huge gift box that was wrapped in pink paper. She was pretty sure it was a pair of bicycles. Wrong! It was her daddy. He’d been deployed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for ten months. She said, “This was way better than bikes.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and if you’re a father like I am, there is no greater gift you can give your son or daughter than being the daddy they need. I’ve worked with a lot of young people, and so many are living with a daddy deficit. They’re forfeiting a life that matters and making all kinds of heartbreaking mistakes. They’re trying to fill the hole that their father was supposed to fill. God—who called Himself our Heavenly Father—says, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4 ). Well, some questions for you and me, Dad: Am I loving my child in the ways that make them feel loved or just in the ways that are easy for me, convenient for me? Am I keeping my promises to my son or daughter? Am I so busy that I’m sending the message that other things are more important to me than they are? Am I really listening to my son or daughter or mostly just talking? Hey, it’s summer. Maybe you got a little more time then usually to make a change; to give them the gift only you can give—the gift of a daddy. For some more spiritual encouragement, would you go to our website? It’s ALlifeThatMatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Ephesians 6:4 |
