Download MP3 (right click to save) When I was a kid in Chicago, I used to love to go to Riverview Park; the amusement park on the north side. Somebody conned me into going on The Rotor, this big cylindrical thing where you go in like into a washing machine, and you stand along the edge and it starts spinning. And you go, “This is dumb.” And then suddenly you’re looking down as the floor disappears, you’re looking down into this yawning black hole. You say, “I’m going to die!” Well, that’s the day I learned the reality of something called centrifugal force. See, the faster an object is spinning, the more things get thrown to the edge—like I did that day on The Rotor. I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Now, here’s the problem: there have been way too many times that Jesus has been the victim of centrifugal force in my life. Because the faster my life is spinning, the more I tend to allow Him to get thrown to the edge, starting with my personal time with Him in His Book. I get “Martha-ed”. Jesus had gone to Mary and Martha’s house for dinner, and it says, “Mary sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.” She’s so stressed, she’s let her list crowd out her Lord and He’s right in her house, and she’s missing Him. She’s so busy! Jesus says, “Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better” (Luke 10:38-42 ). See, He’s more interested in your being with Him than your being busy for Him. When you let your time with Him get pushed to the edges of your busy schedule, you lose the joy of sitting at His feet. Today might be good day to say, “Jesus, my time with You will no longer be negotiable. You are the one non-negotiable of my daily schedule.” There’s more spiritual encouragement at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Luke 10:38-42 |
