Download MP3 (right click to save) Thanksgiving! Turkey! Pumpkin pie! Five pounds! And an opportunity you might not have thought about. You might call it, “The Power of Saying Thanks.” There’s a thanks you could write this Thanksgiving that could help change the eternal address of someone you care about. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and if you belong to Jesus, I’m guessing there’s someone in your family or your close circle of friends who probably doesn’t have a relationship with Jesus. You want them in heaven with you, but the closer someone is, let’s be honest, the harder it is to talk to them about the only One who can get them there. That’s where this season of giving thanks comes in. The Bible says, ”Pray…that God may open a door for our message” (Colossians 4:3 ). What you need is an open door to tell someone you love about Jesus, and Thanksgiving might be that opportunity. I’m going to suggest that you write a letter to that loved one. It’s got four parts to it. Number one, ”I love you.” In that part you just spell out how much you care about them and how long you’ve loved them. Secondly, ”Thank you for…” That’s really important. Tell them the many things that you appreciate about them. Who wouldn’t want to read that, right? And this part’s harder, “I’m sorry for…”—apologizing. Let them know those are things you’ve asked Jesus to forgive you for, too, knowing He died for every wrong thing you’ve ever done. And finally, “I wish we could”…how I wish our relationship could be to make the rest of our years, the best of our years. And include your desire to be with them in heaven forever and what you’ve discovered about what Jesus did to get us there. Hey, it’s a Thanksgiving open door; one that might just open a heart. There’s more about being a spiritual rescuer at our website, which is ALifeThatMatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters.
