I keep seeing myself in C. S. Lewis's stories The Chronicles of Narnia, including the one the new movie's based on - Prince Caspian.
I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I was struck by a conversation between Susan, who's one of the children who discovered Narnia, and Aslan, the Lion King of Narnia - the Christ figure. Susan's been wandering and confused; she's been on the wrong road, and she meets Aslan and he diagnoses her lostness. He says, "You have listened to your fears." Then he breaths on her, and her fear is gone.
That's how sometimes I have missed what God had for me and maybe how you have; I've listened to my fears. You focus on what you have to lose or who you have to lose; on all the "mights" and all the "coulds" and all the "what ifs." Peter was in the middle of a storm with the other disciples on the Sea of Galilee, and they saw Jesus walking toward them on the water. And Peter is considering stepping out - going to Jesus. There's no visible means of support. He's going to risk everything to do it. Here's all he wanted to know, "Lord, if it's you" (Matthew 14:28 ). And Jesus says, "Come." And Peter walks on the water.
Those who never risked getting out of the boat never know what it is to walk on water. That might be what Jesus is asking you to do. If you don't, you may miss some awesome things He wants you to do and a life that matters. If it's Jesus, listen to Him instead of your fears.
