The kids head back to school, they hang out with friends you didn’t get to pick, they’re facing daily pressures to do the wrong thing in a culture that makes those things look totally cool. If you’re a mom or dad, it’s pretty hard not to be afraid for that child you love a lot.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and it has never been more challenging to be a parent, and maybe more dangerous to be a child. In the midst of parent worries comes this important encouragement from God Himself. In fact, this verse could begin, “Attention all parents!” It says this: “God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 ). Now that spirit of fear doesn’t come from God. God wants you playing offense with your kids, not just defense. Sometimes we act like greater is he that is in the world than He that is in us. That’s backwards of what the Bible says.

Don’t raise kids just to survive spiritually, raise them to make a difference, to live a life that matters, not just a life that takes up space. When our kids left for school every morning I’d yell out the door, “Go MAD!” And that didn’t mean be insane. It meant ‘Go Make a Difference’. Why don’t you raise your son or daughter to go MAD when they go to school; to be a living alternative to the darkness around them because the darker the darkness is, the more the light shows up.
