Download MP3 (right click to save) It was the Mexico City Olympics—there was this grueling twenty-six mile marathon event. Now it was over. It had been over for about an hour. The medals had been awarded, the people were leaving the stadium; they were closing the gates on the stadium. Suddenly a horn started going off, they opened the gates again and this battered runner came almost staggering through the gate. He was from Africa. He had suffered a painful injury during the race, but he was determined to complete this marathon and he dragged himself around the track for that last like excruciating stretch. Afterwards they said, “Why did you do it? You had no chance of a medal.” He said, “Because my country didn’t send me 7,000 miles just to start the race and not finish it.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft and it could be that the race Jesus has given you to run for Him has gotten really hard and really painful. Using Olympic imagery, God says to you from the Bible, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2 ). Again, in the blueprint for a life that matters, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 ). You know what God’s saying to you today? “Don’t quit. Don’t give up. Don’t abandon that commitment.” I can almost hear Jesus saying, “God didn’t send me all the way from heaven to save you so you could give up before your race is run.” You’ll find some fuel to run on at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters.
