They call it the harvest moon and on some of those full moon nights, it can look absolutely huge as it rises in the eastern sky near our place. Of course, there’s a dirty little secret about the moon: it’s actually just a dead piece of rock. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and there’s really no such thing as moonlight. What we’re seeing is the light of the sun reflecting off the moon. All that bright beauty of the moon is just reflected glory. Now, there have been times—often after I’ve done a good job at something or gotten some compliments—that I’ve been tempted to think something like this: “Hey, you know, I’m pretty good.” Then I get hit with Scripture like this: “I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another!” (Isaiah 42:8 ) “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 ) See, the reality is, we’re not the sun. We’re the moon. Without the light of Jesus reflecting off me, I’m just a dead piece of rock. Now that leads to two very important conclusions. First, pride is stealing glory that belongs only to God. And secondly, we can dare to do risky things for God because it won’t be us, it will be God shining through us. A life that matters isn’t something you achieve, it’s something you receive; which puts it within the reach of anyone God chooses to give it to and that’s going to be someone who knows that it is only God’s glory shining through them. Because of the Son of God, a dead piece of rock can light up the night. Hey, we want to help you be that kind of light where you are. Our website is for that. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Isaiah 42:8 ; 1 Corinthians 4:7 |
