A lot of life’s important conversations have the same problem; it’s hard to know how to get started. Like, trying to tell a girl you love her, explaining the facts of life to your child maybe, delivering some bad news to somebody, or giving someone you care about the good news that could change their life and their eternity. There’s no greater way to have a life that matters than that.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and if you belong to Jesus, God has placed you in the lives of some folks who don’t belong to Him. He’s counting on you to tell them how they can have a relationship with Him. The question is how do you get started? Well, you could try what’s worked for me, the Three-Open Prayer. It’s based on Colossians 4:3-4 in the Bible. “Pray that God may open a door for our message and pray that I may proclaim it clearly.”

Now, here’s how the Three-Open Prayer goes: first of all, “Lord, open a door.” Now a door is a natural opportunity to bring up your relationship with Jesus, something going on in your life, something going on in their life, something going on in the world. Then, “Lord, open their heart.” Get them ready to hear what I’m going to tell them about Jesus at Your prompting. Then, thirdly, “Lord, open my mouth.” Give me the words, give me the courage, give me the approach.

And you don’t have to pray, “Lord, if it be Your will.” It is His will. You know, ultimately this business of sharing Christ is all a God thing. You show up and you join God in the spiritual rescue mission His Son died for. Our whole website is there to equip you to do that.
