Download MP3 (right click to save) Now when I see hurricanes taking aim at the East Coast, I remember Belle. Yeah, that’s the hurricane that hit while our family was vacationing on Long Island one summer. The kids’ room was upstairs and ours was downstairs, but not the night of the hurricane. I mean, we were on high ground so we didn’t have to evacuate, but the kids moved downstairs and we made one big bed out of sofa cushions and chair cushions; and the winds are howling around us, but it really drove us together. We were really close. That’s a good thing about a big storm. I’m Ron Hutchcraft. You know that could be you and your family or you and your marriage. Maybe you’re being hit hard by one of life’s financial hurricanes or medical or emotional hurricanes. Now it will do one of two things—it’ll drive you closer together or further apart. It won’t be the storm that decides it; it’ll be your choices. If you let the storm make you selfish and all about yourself and withdrawn and panicky and bad tempered, you’re going to choose to let the storm drive you apart. On the other hand, a storm can make you realize how much you need each other; that these relationships are the ones that really matter in a life that matters. Here’s the Bible’s blueprint for storm proof relationships, “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love, honor one another above yourselves” (Romans 12:10 ). Now the storm may take some things, but it may help you find each other. There’s more spiritual encouragement at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. I hope you’ll go there, because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Romans 12:10 |
